8 Amazing books I read in 2019

If you know me at all, you’ll know I love me some books!

I will attempt to read just about anywhere, anytime and almost anything! Truly! I was that kid under the covers with a flashlight and then streetlight when I got busted and my light taken away, I was hiding books under desks at school, heck I’d even read cereal boxes if that’s all there was!

Today I can offer myself more than a cornflakes box, and I do have some preferences! In fact, I’ve read some amazing books this year (and some meh ones that I won’t bore you with) and I thought I’d share some of my ‘highly recommend’ books in case you want to check them out.

I love these types of lists because that’s how I end up finding all sorts of new page-turners. I hope you find something that excites you as well. If you’ve already read one (or a few) I’d love to hear your feelings and take-aways or little nugget you found in them.

You should know that these are not in any particular order, even though I feel compelled to number them. They are just some wonderful books and all of them off something I found worth sharing.

  1. Millionaire Success Habits by Dean Graziosi
Ok truth time. I was SO put off by this title at first. I ‘heard’ it as another get rich quick type book.

However, I found myself watching an interview with the author one day (not realizing the connection) and was so inspired by his talk that I looked him up to find that this is one of his books! So I gave it a go…and I’m SO glad I did! I actually read it through and then started reading it again it is so filled with good stuff.

This book is ALL about mindset, getting your Self right first and creating a vision of the life you want and REAL talk that I have recommended it to more people than I can count anymore.

  2. Stop Doing that Shit! by Gary John Bishop
I’ve read Gary John Bishop’s books before and this is one of his latest and it’s GOOD. If you tend to find yourself trying to do and be better but then ending up pretty much back where you started (hi, self destructive patterns!) then this book is for you.

It helps you connect the past to the present and increase your self awareness around why you do what you do. And we all know, being more aware is how we can stop our ‘stuff’ in it’s tracks.

  3. Everything is Figureoutable by Marie Forleo
I love Marie Forleo! She’s the real deal you know?
I’ve been following Marie for AGES and took her B-School program when I was first starting out and while the program was good…it was the live group calls that were amazing. This book reminds me so much of those calls! Easy read, but some deep shit that might just change your perspective and your life.

  4. A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman
If you’re looking for a story to remind you that behind every set of eyes there is a lifetime of stories, this is it. Beautifully written, thoughtfully created to explore the impact we all have on others lives…intentionally or not.

It’s a feel good, moving story. Perfect for a cold winter’s night by the fire with a mug of something hot!

    5. Great Goddesses by Nikita Gill
The subtitle on this book of poetry and writing based on the old gods is “Life lessons from myths and monsters” and it delivers.

Some of the writings in here are simply gorgeous, some make you think and a few made me sigh in contentment. Now I love poetry and the myths and legends of the old gods but even if you are not an avid poetry reader you might find this particular collection enjoyable.

    6. The Latte Factor by David Bach
A book I had recommended to me. Not a long read at all but one that really kicked me in the butt! David Bach wrote this as a parable with co-author John David Mann (who wrote the Go-Giver). It’s a story with a TON of aha’s in it. SO much so that as soon as I was done I sent off for two more of David Bach’s books (I loved Smart Women Finish Rich so much!) so I could dig deeper.

If you have children in their late-teens or older, this is a fabulous gift to set them thinking about money in a positive and pro-active way. I have lost count of how many people I’ve lent MY copy to, who ended up buying their own and often another for someone else.

Keep an eye when you order or pick up a copy that he wrote a Canadian and US version of many of his books!

    7. You are a Badass by Jen Sincero
I picked this one up when it was on sale and it ended up being such an enjoyable, fun sort of read that I am quite happy I did.

While this book is rather entertaining with the funny stories and all, it actually does give you some tools to use (easy ones!) and a bit of an inspiring ass-kick to get going on your dreams. There is a lot of looking at beliefs and self-sabotaging behaviors many of us do and what to do about them.

    8. I Hope I Screw This Up by Kyle Cease
If you think Kyle Cease sounds familiar it might be because he’s a pretty popular comedian! If you want to know what kind of comedic irreverence you get with this book…just carefully read the back cover. (*Hint, notice the names of the testimonials!)

Honestly though, while really well written and fun to read…this book holds some really deep, life-changing thoughts about facing your fears, doing things that make you step closer to the life you dream of and feeling fulfilled.

These are some of my favourites from 2019. Have you read any of them?
Let me know in the comments what some of YOUR favourite books.

Big love

Bonnie
